Clickers

Now that the university has selected a vendor for clickers and clicker software, I plan to purchase a number of clickers for our Division. My implementation plan right now will likely be:

  1. Purchase the clickers
  2. Attend a clicker workshop
  3. Provide a demonstration to Student Affairs Large Staff and to DETAG
  4. Talk with some specific units about potential use of clickers (our five units teaching courses, plus units like CSLEPS, Campus Rec, and others who lead workshops and courses)
  5. Make clickers available for checkout to the units
  6. Coordinate a Division-wide purchase next spring after units have had a chance to use this tool
  7. Provide Division-specific training for our internal folks
  8. Coordinate the above with DETAG’s input and participation
  9. Assess this initiative throughout.

VCL and Student Affairs

Our campus has been pushing out a Virtual Computing Lab (VCL) for a while to a limited audience. The VCL is now available to anyone. I plan to investigate further to learn how our units might use this resource. Our five units teaching academic courses certainly might find this useful (primarily ROTC, I’m guessing). Not sure how else our other units might take advantage, but worthy of investigation for sure.

Study: Student/Faculty Relationships on Facebook

Here is an study on student/faculty relationships on Facebook. It is authored by Hewitt and Forte at Georgie Tech, and outlines a project that is currently at the half-way mark. The first part of the project involved a survey of students regarding their attitudes about faculty participation in Facebook. It included a set of questions designed to rate the their interactions with faculty through Facebook, and also the specific question, “Should faculty be on the Facebook?”
