The Student Affairs techies over at UNC have launched a new initiatve called UNC Mobile. It provides alerts, bus info, emergency messages, and much more via text messaging. Interesting stuff.

Jott
My colleague Eddie Lovett recently encouraged me to try out Jott, a (currently) free service that lets you make a phone call to yourself, essentially, that is then transcribed and available to you via the web. Eddie loves it. I’ve signed up but haven’t used it yet. Not sure if there would be any uses for Student Affairs yet, but this is obviously the trend in technology…connecting everything and everyone through all possible devices.
Clickers
Now that the university has selected a vendor for clickers and clicker software, I plan to purchase a number of clickers for our Division. My implementation plan right now will likely be:
- Purchase the clickers
- Attend a clicker workshop
- Provide a demonstration to Student Affairs Large Staff and to DETAG
- Talk with some specific units about potential use of clickers (our five units teaching courses, plus units like CSLEPS, Campus Rec, and others who lead workshops and courses)
- Make clickers available for checkout to the units
- Coordinate a Division-wide purchase next spring after units have had a chance to use this tool
- Provide Division-specific training for our internal folks
- Coordinate the above with DETAG’s input and participation
- Assess this initiative throughout.
