Sedgwick

The name “Sedgwick” has been used as a middle name for several generations in the Brown and Bryan families in my husband’s line. Here are those with that name and their connections.

Sedgwick

Sedgwick Russling Brown may have been named after Sedgwick Russling, a Methodist minister who lived in that area at the time. This obit shows only one “s” in his last name, and both versions can be found in other online documents. Likewise, this minister’s first name sometimes appears without the “g” and sometimes with a second “e” (“Sedgewick”) — lots of variations.

Two other items of note. As you can see from the chart above, the name “Russling” carried forward as well. Also, S. R. Brown’s brother, Sylvanus Decker Brown, also seems to have been named after a Methodist minister in the area at the time – Sylvanus D. Decker.
